CB Insights

CB Insights

A private company and technology market intelligence platform built for corporate strategy, M&A and venture teams, sold on quote-based enterprise contracts.

What is

CB Insights

A corporate development team has to decide which private companies are worth buying, funding or partnering with, and most of those companies file nothing and publish no numbers. CB Insights exists for that gap, selling a researched view of roughly 12 million private companies and 1,600 technology markets to the people who make those calls. The platform is called Strategy Terminal, and its core is a set of proprietary scores. Mosaic rates company health, Commercial Maturity rates the ability to compete and partner, Exit Probability forecasts an IPO or an acquisition, and a Funding Window predicts when a company is likely to raise next. Around that sits ChatCBI and eleven packaged agents that write scouting reports, SWOT analyses and due diligence briefs. The data reaches you through the terminal, a Chrome extension, an API, a Snowflake share, a Salesforce connector and MCP connectors for Claude and ChatGPT. We would not put a GTM team on CB Insights. It tracks companies and skips people, so there are no emails, no direct dials and no buying intent, and Vendr puts the median contract at $46,984 a year. Clay carries twelve CB Insights actions billed on Clay credits, which covers the fields a GTM team would want.

Integrations and the modern GTM stack

CB Insights has spent the last two years turning itself into a data supply rather than a destination, so the integration list is mostly about carrying its scores into a warehouse, a CRM or an LLM. That matters more than usual here, because almost nobody outside a strategy team wants to live inside the terminal all day.

Clay

Clay ships twelve native CB Insights actions covering funding activity, acquisitions, revenue, valuation, total funding, competitors, partnerships, corporate hierarchy, industry classification and a one-to-five commercial maturity rating. They are Clay-built, run on Clay credits and need no API key of your own, which is the only route we found to CB Insights fields without an enterprise contract.

Salesforce CRM

A connector that writes CB Insights data onto Salesforce records and exposes it to Salesforce agents. This is the one integration aimed squarely at a revenue team, and it enriches accounts you already own rather than helping you find new ones.

Snowflake

Company and market data is available as a Snowflake share that CB Insights says is optimized for AI use. Sensible if your team already models account data in a warehouse and wants the Mosaic and maturity scores sitting as columns beside everything else.

API and data feeds

A REST API plus continually refreshed feeds through a developer portal, sold under Data Solutions on consumption-based pricing. Volume is quoted separately from seats, so model the call pattern against a real workflow before you sign anything.

MCP connectors

Official MCP connectors for Claude and ChatGPT launched in April 2026, with A2A support alongside them, so an agent can query CB Insights data directly. CB Insights also names Copilot and Perplexity among the LLM surfaces it reaches.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

A pre-built connector that surfaces company and market data inside Copilot and Copilot agents, including Copilot in Excel. Relevant when your strategy team already works in Microsoft tools and will not open another research app.

Chrome and Edge extension

Browser Analyst reads whatever company page you are on and returns funding, partnerships, competitors, executives and a scouting report with a SWOT. The Chrome listing shows about 4,000 users and a 4.5 rating from 24 ratings, last updated 30 July 2026.

What is missing

No HubSpot app, no Zapier or n8n listing, no connection to any sequencer, and no contact data anywhere in the product. If you need an email address or a direct dial, CB Insights is not the layer that supplies it and has never claimed to be.

Pro’s

  • The scores are the real product, and Mosaic, Commercial Maturity and Exit Probability give a strategy team a defensible way to rank private companies that publish no financials at all.

  • Coverage runs deep on the private market, with 12 million company profiles and 1,600 ranked technology markets, and CB Insights claimed in April 2026 that it now leads global equity deal coverage.

  • The delivery surfaces are unusually well built for an analyst platform, covering a REST API, a Snowflake share, a Salesforce connector, a Microsoft 365 Copilot connector and official MCP connectors for Claude and ChatGPT.

  • Eleven packaged agents produce the deliverables analysts used to assemble by hand, including scouting reports, SWOT analyses, competitive briefs and commercial due diligence summaries.

  • Business relationship data maps a company's customers, vendors and partners, and that is the one dataset here that lands cleanly on account planning work a revenue team already does.

  • Clay ships twelve native CB Insights actions that run on Clay credits with no API key, so the funding, valuation, competitor and commercial maturity fields reach a table without an enterprise contract.

Cons

  • It tracks companies and skips people, so there are no verified emails, no direct dials and no buying intent signals, and a prospecting team still needs a full contact and intent layer underneath it.

  • Nothing about it executes, with no sequencing, no campaign orchestration and no CRM enrichment workflow, so the output stays research that a human reads before deciding what to do.

  • Pricing is quote-only with no published tiers, and Vendr's contract data puts the median at $46,984 a year across a $24,748 to $184,986 range, which is a strategy budget rather than a sales one.

  • Coverage thins out exactly where early prospecting happens, since reviewers report gaps on small and mid-sized private companies and on stealth or pre-seed startups that have never raised.

  • Reviewers consistently flag a steep learning curve, and the platform rewards an analyst who lives inside it rather than a rep who opens it twice a month.

How it fits your stack

Alternatives

Crunchbase covers funding and growth signals from $49 a month if what you want is timing on an account list. Harmonic goes deeper on early-stage and founder data than CB Insights does, so it is the better call for anyone hunting pre-seed and seed companies. Clay is where most GTM teams should end up, since it ships twelve native CB Insights actions on Clay credits alongside the enrichment and verification this platform never does. ZoomInfo is the swap when the real need is contact data and intent rather than market research.
