An AI notetaker whose free tier records and transcribes unlimited calls, while the advanced summaries, CRM depth and team features live on the paid plans above it.
What is
Fathom
Fathom takes the meeting you just had and turns it into a written record you can search, share and act on. It records Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls, transcribes them in 38 languages, and posts a summary with action items into your inbox a couple of minutes after the call ends. Capture happens in one of two ways. A bot joins the call the way most notetakers do, or the desktop app records without one, a Mac beta that keeps speaker attribution either way. Ask Fathom answers questions across your call history in a chat window, and every plan pipes that context into ChatGPT or Claude through MCP. Downstream, summaries and tasks sync into HubSpot and Salesforce, Slack gets highlights in real time, and a public API with webhooks and SDKs opens the transcripts to anything you build. The Business tier adds Deal View, coaching metrics and AI scorecards, and that is the point where Fathom starts behaving like a sales tool rather than a notepad. Fathom is what we point clients to at the lighter end of this category, and the free plan makes it cheap to prove out before anyone signs anything. We have not used it inside Nebor ourselves. It stops short of the deal scoring and forecasting Gong sells, so a team with a weekly forecast cadence outgrows it.
Integrations and the modern GTM stack
Fathom's integration list is short compared with the rest of this category, and it is deliberate. Three meeting platforms, two CRMs, a handful of collaboration tools, then a public API that is open on every plan including the free one, so most of the interesting wiring happens on your side rather than in a marketplace listing.
Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams | The three platforms Fathom captures. It joins as a bot or, on the Mac desktop app, records without one while keeping speaker attribution. Fathom does not support Webex, GoToMeeting or RingCentral, and it cannot process an audio or video file you upload after the fact. |
HubSpot | Summaries land on the Meeting event, action items become tasks, attendees match to contacts by primary email, and summary content can map into custom deal properties on Business. Sync only happens for external contacts who were on the calendar invite. Free, Premium and Team are capped at three connections. |
Salesforce | The same pattern as HubSpot, with call summaries and highlights written against matching Contacts, Accounts and open Opportunities. Field-level mapping into named Salesforce fields is a Business feature, so the lower tiers get a note attached to the record and little control over where it goes. |
Slack | Highlights post into a channel in real time while the call is still going, which is the closest Fathom gets to live coaching. Setup is an OAuth connection from the Fathom dashboard and it is included from the free plan up. |
ChatGPT and Claude | Added in 2026 through MCP and included on every plan, including free. Your meeting history becomes context inside either assistant, so you can ask about a deal in the same window where you are drafting the follow-up. Fathom is unusual in not metering this behind credits. |
Zapier, Make and the automation layer | Both are native and both are marked limited use on the lower tiers, so a heavy automation build wants a paid seat. Fathom does not ship an official n8n node, and the usual route there is a webhook or the REST API rather than a prebuilt app. |
Public API, webhooks and MCP server | Documented at developers.fathom.ai with Typescript and Python SDKs, OAuth for public apps and webhooks on meeting events. It is available on every plan, so pulling transcripts into Clay, a warehouse or your own scoring model does not need an enterprise contract. |
Notion, Asana and the partner apps | Notion receives notes and transcripts the moment a call ends, Asana turns action items into tasks in one click, and a longer partner list covers Superhuman Go, GetAccept, Distribute, BuildBetter and Dust. Most of those are built by the partner rather than by Fathom. |
What is missing | No Pipedrive, Attio or Dynamics connection, so anyone outside HubSpot and Salesforce is writing their own sync. No dialer integrations, no in-person mobile capture yet since the iOS app is still listed as coming soon, and no file upload for calls recorded somewhere else. |
Pro’s
The free plan records, transcribes and stores unlimited calls at no seat cost, so a whole team can stay on it for months and only start paying once they want the advanced summary templates or the shared library.
Capture works with or without a meeting bot and the bot-free desktop mode preserves speaker attribution, so a call with a prospect whose legal team blocks third-party recorders still produces a usable transcript.
Every tier carries a published number, and $25 per user a month on annual Business buys CRM field sync and AI scorecards against a Gong quote that opens with a platform fee in the thousands before a single seat is counted.
Fathom sells no AI credits or tokens, so a team that leans hard on summaries and Ask Fathom gets the same invoice every month instead of a usage bill that swings with how much anyone talks.
The public API, webhooks, Typescript and Python SDKs and the MCP server are available from the free plan up, so pushing transcripts into n8n, Clay or your own warehouse does not require an enterprise contract first.
It holds 5.0 on G2 across more than 6,900 reviews and 5.0 on Capterra across roughly 800, and that volume of praise is rare for a tool nobody is forced by their employer to open.
Cons
Bot-free capture is a Mac beta, so on Windows and on most accounts a bot still appears in the participant list with an in-meeting banner, and the setting to hide that banner is on the upper tiers.
The free plan reads as unlimited until you hit the cap of five advanced summaries a month, after which you get the plain chronological recap, and AI action items, follow-up emails and Ask Fathom are Premium features anyway.
CRM sync on Free, Premium and Team is capped at three users per email domain, and field-level sync into HubSpot and Salesforce only starts on Business, so the CRM behaviour most sales teams buy this for is on the top published tier.
Deal risk scoring and forecasting are absent and Fathom says so in its own comparison FAQ, so anything past clean call records and coaching scorecards has to come from your CRM or from a heavier platform.
Transcription covers 38 languages while automatic summary translation covers six of them, so a call held in Polish or Japanese transcribes fine and the recap comes back untranslated.
