The biggest software directory for smaller buyers, and one of the four review sites our intent workflow scrapes for fresh competitor complaints. Free to list, free to read, pay-per-click to be seen.
What is
Capterra
Capterra is a software directory and review site run by Gartner Digital Markets, with sister sites GetApp and Software Advice sharing the same reviews. Buyers, mostly at smaller companies, compare tools by category, price and rating. Vendors list for free and pay per click to appear higher on the category pages. For a GTM team the value is the reviews. There are more of them here than almost anywhere, they're public, and a lot of them are written by people who just switched away from your competitor and want to say why. Short reviews, but there are enough that a pattern shows. In our review-site intent workflow, Capterra is one of four review sites a scraper reads on a schedule. New reviews of your rivals land in one table with G2, TrustRadius and Trustpilot, a model reads each for the concrete complaint, the company gets a fit check, and the outreach opens on the pain the reviewer named. A buyer who wrote "support took a week to answer" about your rival is a warm conversation for you. The paid side is a separate decision. Pay-per-click placement can work well for SMB tools in less crowded categories and gets expensive fast in crowded ones, and it's worth testing with a small budget before you commit. Reading the reviews costs nothing, and that's where the workflow starts.
Integrations and the modern GTM stack
Capterra is mostly read, and connects through:
Public review pages | The scrape source. Clay or Apify reads new reviews on a schedule, across Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice in one pass. |
Vendor portal | Manage the listing, respond to reviews and read the PPC reports. |
Google Analytics and your CRM | PPC traffic lands on your site tagged, so the visits and the leads it produces show up in your attribution. |
Badges and widgets | Rating badges embed on your own pages. |
Pro’s
Coverage is huge, so almost any competitor you have has reviews here, and there are enough of them to read a real pattern instead of one anecdote.
The audience skews to smaller companies actively comparing, which is exactly the buyer a lot of B2B tools want to meet mid-decision.
The free listing is worth having on its own: badges, a profile and a place reviews accumulate, at no cost.
Because reviews syndicate across GetApp and Software Advice, one scrape covers three sites.
PPC placement is measurable, and you can start small and stop the day it stops paying.
Cons
Reviews are short, so the pain in them is often a phrase where a story would help, and the scrape has to read a lot of them to find the useful ones.
PPC costs vary widely by category and climb fast in crowded ones like CRM.
There's no public price list, and the paid programmes are quote-driven.
The audience is SMB-heavy, so enterprise sellers get less from it.
