A general-purpose meeting transcriber that records, writes down and summarises any conversation, with a free tier most people have already installed and the sales features parked on the Enterprise plan.
What is
Otter.ai
Otter.ai is a meeting transcription service that anyone can start using for free. It records the call, writes down who said what as people talk, and posts a summary with action items once everyone hangs up. Otter counts 35 million users across students, journalists and sales teams, and more than a billion meetings run through it. The Meeting Agent reads your Google or Outlook calendar and joins Zoom, Meet and Teams on its own, while a desktop app records in-room conversations without sending a bot. Otter AI Chat searches back across every transcript, and an MCP connector pipes that history into Claude or ChatGPT. Sales, recruiting and education agents wrap that same transcript. In a GTM stack Otter sits at the capture layer and stops fairly close to it. Sales Notetaker pushes call notes and buying signals into Salesforce or HubSpot, though the version that fills CRM fields and coaches a rep live is an Enterprise line item with custom pricing. Buy Otter for meeting notes and buy something else for deal intelligence. Nebor does not run it, and the tiers most teams can afford hand you a transcript and a summary while Gong, Avoma and Fathom read the deal. It earns a place here because half your company already has it.
Integrations and the modern GTM stack
Otter's integration list is unusually long for a tool with a free tier, and it spreads wide rather than deep. Most connections take a finished transcript and drop it somewhere else, so read the list as distribution rather than as workflow. The connections a revenue team cares about are the ones gated by plan.
Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet | The core capture path on every plan including the free one. The Meeting Agent joins as a participant and transcribes live, and Zoom Phone and RingCentral calls are covered the same way. Business is the first tier that lets the bot sit in 3 meetings at once. |
Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook | Otter reads the calendar and decides which meetings to join, which is what turns it from a tool you remember to open into one that records by default. This is also where the consent problem starts, because auto-join covers external calls unless someone changes the rule. |
Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics and Zoho | Transcripts, summaries and sales insights log against the CRM record. Salesforce and HubSpot appear on Pro with an asterisk on Otter's own pricing page, while syncing insights into custom CRM fields and connecting a whole workspace is described in the help centre as an Enterprise capability. |
Outreach and Salesloft | Calls placed from the sales engagement platform get transcribed and become searchable inside Otter. The link is one directional in practice, so Otter reads the conversation and gives you a record of it rather than driving sequence steps or task creation. |
Slack, Notion, Asana, Jira, ClickUp and Monday | Summaries and action items post into whichever tool the team already lives in. Notion gets full transcripts and takeaways, Slack gets highlights as the meeting runs, and the task tools receive extracted action items with owners. This is the part of Otter most teams use every day. |
Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, Egnyte, Amazon S3 and Snowflake | Bulk export of transcripts, summaries and metadata into storage or a warehouse. Snowflake and S3 are the interesting ones for anyone who wants call language in the same place as pipeline data instead of trapped behind a search box. |
Claude and the AI Chat connectors | An MCP server exposes Otter transcripts and action items to Claude and other assistants, and AI Chat works as an MCP client back into Gmail, Google Drive, Notion, Jira and Salesforce. Announced on 28 April 2026, this is the most current part of the product. |
Zapier and the Otter API | Zapier arrives on Pro and covers most one-way automations a small team needs. The documented API and webhooks are Enterprise only, so anything you want to build properly against Otter data sits behind a sales call and a custom quote. |
What is missing | No native Clay integration, no n8n or Make app, and nothing that pushes a transcript into an enrichment or scoring workflow. Getting Otter output into a GTM system means Zapier on the cheap tiers or the Enterprise API, and Glean is the only search layer Otter connects to natively. |
Pro’s
The free tier hands you 300 minutes a month with no card and no trial clock, so a team can test the habit long before anyone approves a purchase.
Pro at $8.33 a seat on annual billing is the cheapest credible notetaker in this catalog, and it still covers 1,200 transcription minutes a month per user.
The desktop app records without putting a bot in the room, which covers in-person meetings and prospects who decline recording bots on the call.
Otter AI Chat plus the MCP connector lets you query old calls from Claude or ChatGPT, and that is more open than most notetakers at this price.
The integration list runs long for a cheap tool, reaching Slack, Notion, Asana, Jira, ClickUp, Salesforce, HubSpot, Snowflake, Amazon S3 and Zapier.
Thirty-five million users means most of your prospects and colleagues already recognise the bot, so nobody has to be talked through what it is doing on the call.
Cons
The free plan caps a single conversation at 30 minutes, so a normal discovery call gets cut off partway through and the summary covers half the meeting.
Deal intelligence is thin beside Gong, Avoma and Fathom, with no scorecards, deal board or pipeline risk view on the tiers that carry a public price.
Sales Notetaker, CRM field sync, custom dialer integrations and the API all sit on Enterprise with custom pricing, so the cheap plans people quote are the consumer product.
Reviewers on G2 keep reporting mislabelled speakers on group calls and accuracy that drops with accents or background noise, and Otter sits at 4.1 out of 5 there.
Otter is defending a consolidated wiretap class action in California over recording people who never agreed to it, and the motion to dismiss was still undecided in mid-2026.
